Believing R&D is the driving force behind the future growth in business, Grand Pacific Petrochemical Corporation, GPPC, in 1984 set up its R&D department, dedicating research efforts toward process improvements and product refinements. In another effort in view to strengthen and broaden its in-house researches, GPPC also established alliances with renowned research institutes and universities in Taiwan, such as Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Chung Cheng University, and Sun Yat-Sen University, aiming at internalizing new technical innovations and product reinventions.

Decades later starting in 2010, GPPC up scales its research facilities, diversifies research programs, and adds more researchers with advanced degrees into a new division - the Corporate R&D in a new building to be finished in 2012 as its R&D center. Outsourcing reliance expands also to include Kaohsiung University and Tong Hai University.

In addition to stying strong and upward in our core business of styrene, ABS and HIPS, the new division dedicates several selected researches on new chemicals and materials, all of high value and performance, for applications in E/E, 3C and auto industries, locally or globe wise. Also initiated are several green chemistry related catalysis programs, alone or with ITRI and universities, to meet and abate climate warming challenges using the new bio-based materials as the start-up inputs.

We strongly believe that the new R&D division, with corporate firm supports and commitment, will call in our research efforts and lead the company to a more advanced level in vision and reality. The bright horizon for GPPC's sustainable growth in business is shone in now.
